This is an early example of a synthetic photosynthesising ‘fleece’, a genetic modification introduced to sheep and other grazing stock to enable them to generate their own food sources directly from the energy of the sun’s rays. These modified animals were thus able to graze on tarmac, rooftops, and other man-made surfaces, enabling the re-wilding of grasslands or, more often, their conversion to golf-courses.
