Historians believe Format Wars were an attempt by ancient cultures to avoid the bloodshed of physical conflict, which had plagued the early 20th century. The Betamax-VHS wars of the 0001970s and 0001980s and Minidisc skirmishes of the 0001990s are the most well-known. This terminal belonged to the losing side in the battle between The World Wide Web and Minitel in France at the turn of the third millennium.
