Artificial Skin
Orford churchyard, Suffolk
mid/late 21st century
Surgery to improve body parts flourished in the 21st century despite pandemics placing medical resources under extreme pressure. Above everything else, people valued a youthful appearance, regardless of financial burden, physical pain and medical risk. This skin sample was recovered from a Suffolk burial site, which has subsequently been lost to the sea. Upon excavation, all that remained in the graves were plastic body parts.
